For many people, reading is one of the summer’s number one pastimes.  Finally catching up on those books recommended by coworkers or gifted by friends that have been sitting on the nightstand waiting to be opened. Whelp, here are a few more that come with around a 4.0 Goodreads rating. These three books should move to the top of your nightstand pile. It is an eclectic group, a historical fiction that will have you in awe, a twisted mystery/thriller and for dessert a rom-com that will have you laughing out loud. looking for Jane novel

Looking for Jane by Heather Marshall-historical fiction.

This story spans 3 generations, beginning with a lost letter found in 2017 that will take readers back to the 1960’s.  Angela, who discovered the letter, begins the search to deliver it to the intended recipient. The search proves way more difficult and leads her to the Jane network, a band of courageous nurses, doctors and volunteers who help women in the 60’s -80’s.  Tackling the topic of women’s rights with such grace and compassion, Marshall, emphasizes women to support each other no matter what their decisions throughout the book. This is not a politically motivated book rather best described by the author as a book “about motherhood”.

Hidden pictures novel

Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak-mystery/thriller.

A young woman, getting her life back on track takes a post as a nanny in a suburb of Philly.  Sounds quaint until the 5-year-old she is watching starts drawing disturbing pictures of his imaginary friend. Mallory, the nanny, takes it upon herself to decipher the pictures and what is slowly happening to her charge.  Fast moving, easy to visualize and very relatable characters makes this book hard to put down.  If you figure out the ending before it is revealed- then sleuth of the year goes to you!

the Unhoneymooners

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren-Romance/comedy.

Written by two women, Christina and Lauren, this lighthearted rom/com will have you laughing out loud (so don’t bring it to work).  Olive, the unlucky twin, winds up on her sister’s honeymoon with her archnemesis, Ethan, due to a series of unfortunate events. They need to keep up the rouse of being newlyweds to enjoy the free honeymoon vacation Olive’s sister won.  As you can imagine the scenarios to keep the façade from unfolding are hilarious, but under it all there is a concern that something is a brewing with the real newlyweds back home.  This book came highly recommended, as I’m not normally a rom/com reader I took it as a challenge and was pleasantly surprised!  So much so, I’ll pick up the sequel!
