A Patch for Wrinkles?

by Trish Gau, The Hive Overland Park

One of our Hive members recently asked us to try out Frownies before she pulled the trigger to buy them on her own. We happily complied and what follows is our review of this popular beauty product. What are Frownies, you ask? Frownies are a patch for wrinkles that over time should reduce the appearance of facial lines.

The first thing we did was take some before pics:

Then we followed the instructions from the packaging:

Step 1- Separate FROWNIES FACIAL PATCH by gently tearing along the perforations. (Use FROWNIES to create a patchwork of support over the desired area.)

Step 2- Massage facial lines with fingertips for 10 seconds to stimulate circulation. If you use a moisturizer, allow it to absorb before applying FACIAL PATCH.

Step 3- Moisten the shiny side of patch with FROWNIES Rose Water Hydrating spray let it absorb into the adhesive 30 seconds. (we didn't use the spray)

Step 4- Using two fingers of one hand, smooth your skin while pressing the patch with the fingers of your other hand. Be sure there is no crease under the patch.

Step 5- Hold in place until patch adheres. Apply another patch being sure the patches overlap until you cover the entire line and isolate the muscles that  create movement. In most cases the patches need to be much larger than the crease both in width and height.

Step 6- Leave on for a minimum of three hours, but preferably overnight.

Step 7- To remove, thoroughly soak patches to release adhesive. Note: the patch should slide off your skin without pulling or it is not wet enough. These should feel easy to remove or the patch is not wet enough.

This is what it looks like when it is on (Marty chose not to separate her Frownie pieces).

You put them on wet but they get very stiff when they dry and are a bit uncomfortable to sleep in! Below are our results and the video verdict:

Our conclusion: Not a win for us but perhaps with more time (and more patience with the nighttime routine), they might produce better results for others. Plus, Marty and I rarely frown so perhaps we are not the ideal customers (ha!).

Let us know what your results from Frownies or other wrinkle reducers are in the comments below.

From the Frownies website: "Depending on depth or appearance of existing wrinkles, it may take up to four weeks for lasting, noticeable results. As with any skincare product, results vary based on skin type, consistency of use and proper application."
