How can you make your regular, day-to-day outfits pop?

An easy fix is to layer on accessories and statement pieces to boost freshness when things feel super stale. Fun pieces can take you from frump to fabulous.

As we approach the dog days of summer, you may feel like your perky lightweight wardrobe favorites have lost their appeal.

Here’s some tips to punch things back up as you await fall and the coming cooler seasons:

• Add a statement piece to your outfit. Something like a pin or an inexpensive necklace. Now is a great time to find awesome markdowns at the end of the season.

• Go online and find some inexpensive jewelry or a handbag that speaks to you. It’s all about fun, nothing serviceable or basic!

• If you keep a special piece tucked away in one of your drawers ‘for good,’ pull it out and let it brighten up your day and your outfit.

• Add a touch of metallic. Look in vintage stores for sparkly or metallic evening bags. These can be repurposed for daytime looks to add a spot of interest and texture. Especially in summer when it’s so hot. Toting around a big bag can be a drag! Go small!

• Hats. This is the season of the sun hat. Grab a couple and look chic and cool as temperatures rise. You can even wrap a colorful scarf around the hat to give it some added personality.

It’s summer. Getting dressed should be fun. Put those accessories into rotation rather than saving them for good.
