I feel like my social media feeds are bombarded with ads and videos of beauty products. I'll be honest, I know very little about all of the creams, serums, foundations, mascaras, tanners, etc. I don't use much make up and I'm really doing great if I even get my face washed at night. If a product does catch my eye and I consider trying it, I never know if it will really do what it promises or if I am picking the correct shade or if its right for my skin tone/type. You have to take a leap of faith when you make a purchase- you never know exactly what you are going to get. So, to give you a little insight into several of the products that have gone viral on social media, The Hive team picked a few and tried them out. Here is the scoop on what we thought and how they worked on middle-stage skin and lashes.

Niki's Picks

After seeing Thrive Causmetics on Instagram, Niki gave this color stick a try and now it is always in her makeup bag. She uses it for contouring but it can also be used as a blush, bronzer or highlighter. It is smooth and creamy and give you a little shimmery boost wherever you need it.

This mascara is so special it's "tubing" technology is patented! Niki loves it because it doesn't glob, smudge or flake and her lashes look like she has extensions - they are so full and long.

Tiff's Picks:

This really does give you a flawless, natural-looking tan that helps hide imprefections (and at our age, most of us have many-discoloration, scars, blemishes). It is hydrating, but it doesn't replace your regular moisturizer. It dries quickly and is not sticky or stinky like some other self-tanners. It even comes with a cute little Kabuki Brush for application. It's a little pricey but I only use it on my face and chest and then use a different self-tanner for the rest of my body, so it lasts a long time.

miracle balm

Miracle Balm - They were not kidding when they named this! This is the secret of no-makeup makeup: a wash of soft, shimmery moisture to perfect and enhance skin. You can use this as blush, highlighter, bronzer, eyeshadow, lipstick, or really anywhere. Don't be fooled by the dark/bright colors, Miracle Balm goes on sheer and dewey. If you want a brighter/darker look, just layer it and keep applying until you get the shade you want. I love the Tawny shade but there is a whole palette of colors to choose from

Trish's Pick:

We were a little nervous to try this on Trish, but it had easy step-by-step directions and really worked well. It curled and darkened her lashes - almost like a mascara but it lasts up to 8 weeks and you can skip the mascara. Definitely read the directions because you will be putting chemicals close to your eyes. This kit also contains enough product for three applications so it seems reasonably priced.

Marty's Pick

These cleansing pads have totally gone viral on TikTok so Marty, Trish and I gave them a try - who doesn't need a little more brightening and smoothing? We all loved the light lemon scent and they did seem to tighten and smooth our skin. More importantly, they forced us to wash our faces thoroughly every day! We didn't see dramatic results but we did not use them as long as recommended - we used for a few days and the package instructed to use them for a few months. That being said, look how much brighter Marty's skin is in the "after" photo.
