Portable Safe

Find #1

For all the valuable stuff and papers, this lock box is a great way to ensure the safety of their personal items. It can easily be stored under a bed, drawer or closet. One customer wrote, "Easy to use and create a new code. The quality is durable and sturdy." This lock box will give you and your child peace of mind whether they are in a dorm or apartment this fall.

Note from Tiffany: Both of my daughters put their passports, medication and cash in this little lock-box to keep everything safe.

Corded Stick Vacuum

Find #2

A great, inexpensive vacuum for cleaning floors and more. It can be used on carpets, area rugs, and hard floors to keep dust, dirt, and debris at bay. This lightweight stick vacuum has a quick-release handle that can be removed while keeping the foot attached for convenient stair cleaning. Also can be used as a hand vacuum on countertops or upholstery.

Note from Marty: My son still has this vacuum - survived dorm and apartments for 4 years and still works great!

Double-sided Gel Tape

Find #3

Since you can't drill a ton of holes in the walls (both in the dorms or most apartments), when you need a quick stick, try this unusual tape. It's strong — a five-foot roll can hold 20 pounds — but it's also removable, washable and reusable. It's great for decorations, quick fixes and the like. You can even use it to stick your phone to the wall to take a selfie (but maybe don't tell your kid that ;)!

Dual Alarm Clock

Find #4

Worried about your heavy sleeper?! Their phone will never be able to wake them up like this. Not only is this alarm clock really, really loud, but it has a disc that you can put in their bed that will shake them awake, just like Mom used to. Their GPA will thank you.

No Spill Dog Travel Bowl

Find #5

These are genius inventions for all of the many cords we have these days. These self adhesive multipurpose cord holders come with 15 slots in 5 different cable clips. They will use them at their desk, by their bed and more to keep phone and computer cords from falling on the floor.

Single Serve Coffee Maker

Find #6

The perfect cup of coffee is only moments away with your new Mainstays Single Serve Dual Brew Coffee Maker. Designed to work with a filter for ground coffee and a compatible capsule holder, this easy-to-use coffee brewer creates a custom cup of your favorite coffee to order. Simple, one-touch operation. This compact maker is super affordable and can significantly cut down on those expensive Starbucks runs.

Additional things to add to the list would be a good fan (useful in dorms and apartments!), a good power strip (love this one!), Command Hooks (always needed) and some cleaning wipes (they may or may not be used but it makes Mom feel better ;).

What other musts do you recommend for dorm/apartment living? Let us know in the comments!
