Is 50 the New Frumpy?

Updated: Jun 29, 2023

Hi! I’m Leslie Cole, a personal stylist and image consultant to middle stage women who wish to up their style game or start anew.

Many women I work with are in a transition.

Kids have left the nest, they’ve moved to a new location. Or they’ve become divorced or widowed. Maybe they’ve just gained a few or lost a couple. Perhaps the closet has become a mad mess of chaos that dampens any enthusiasm for putting themselves together.

I love helping women style their way to living their best life. To put women together with personality.

Which is what the Hive Women KC is all about. I’m so happy you’ve found this nest of abundant, vibrant and fully engaged middle stage women. You’ll love this community. I sure have since I joined two years ago.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, is 50 the new frumpy? I’m 62, so I say absolutely, N-O way!
No rule exists saying you have to turn in your keys to looking vibrant, stylish and perhaps even sexy at 50 and over.
For proof, check out the recent press generated by cooking mogul and icon Martha Stuart, who posed on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition at 81.
Go back and read that again! 81!!! The mature model, May Musk appeared at 74.
Yes, shade has been thrown at both for appearing ‘air-brushed’ and perfect. I’ve seen many comments on social media stating these images convey standards no ‘normal’ woman can match.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ladies. These photos are intended as encouragement, inspiration. Martha posed to give others permission to embrace their own beauty and sexiness at any age.

Yes, she was airbrushed. So what. It’s a choice. And, for us all to rise as women, we must respect other’s choices. Regardless of whether or not it’s our thing.

The point is you can choose to embrace that part of yourself as you age, not that you are required to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So what is your style? Is it morphing into matronly? Are you hiding behind shapeless black clothes or athleisure rather than confronting whatever stage your body is in now?
I can assure you, it’s impacting your confidence, your vitality and the impression you leave with others.
When you look good, you feel good. Think about how great you feel on ‘hair day.’ Or when you’re all dressed up for an event.
It makes me sad how many women will opt out of an event altogether if they feel they have nothing to wear. We need you out there representing, ladies. Fight the frump. Fight ageism.
It is not shallow to embrace your looks and enhance your physical appearance.
Challenge yourself to leave the comfort zone of “I just want to be comfortable.’ You can be plenty comfortable in the right stylish outfits if you know how to assemble them!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So go for it. If you need some help, I’m here for you. I work in person and virtually in the Kansas City area as well as in Southern California in the Newport Beach area. I absolutely love helping women elevate their style and up-level their lives. You can read about my style pillars on my website, www.findmyfeminine.com.
