Let's Lift My Lashes

Contributed by Trish Gau, The Hive Overland Park

Anyone else see posts all over their social media of how easy it is to do an at-home lash lift? I have been "eyeing" these posts for months and finally decided that I should definitely try it for the good of the blog, of course! I have always hated both applying and removing mascara- it inevitably gets somewhere on my skin when I put it on and I either look like a racoon or have to rub a ton to get it off - and don't even get me started about how it irritates my eyeballs themselves! This home lift seems like the perfect solution.

I purchased the Luxe Lash Lift and Tint Kit. Here are some things to consider before you get started:

TIP 1: Doing the application with a friend can make it easier and more enjoyable. I've already coerced Tiffany and Marty to help me do it!

TIP 2: Don't rush through the process, take your time. This took a lot longer than I thought -you'll probably need at least 40 minutes or so.

TIP 3: Avoid using mascara, water, sauna, and steam for the first 24-48 hours after the lift. If using mascara afterwards, choose a non-waterproof formula. I'm hoping to never use mascara again after these kits work their magic!

Definitely watch a tutorial and follow the full product instructions that come with the kits. The process is not too complicated, but there are several steps that need to be done in a specific order. The first step is to make sure your eyelids/lashes are clean. Don't forget to take a before pic so you can be amazed! Then, choose a silicone pad based on how much curve you want in your lashes and apply them to the base of your eyelids (you may want to trim them - we did not).

Next, apply the glue to the base of the silicone pad so that you can press the eyelashes up on to it. This will take a while so you need a little patience; eventually they will stay up. Make sure they are straight and there are no air gaps under the lashes.

Here's a pic of how they did it!

Next, apply the perm lotion to the lashes. Only apply it to the middle of the lashes and leave the tips alone so they don't curl, too. (My "aestheticians" did not follow this part of the directions!) Remove excess with a cotton swab. Allow to set for 12-15 mins. Then remove the perm lotion before applying the fix lotion in the same manner.

The fix lotion (not the nourishing lotion yet) should stay on for 10-12 minutes. Then remove it with a dry cotton swab.

If you are tinting your lashes as well as lifting them, mix a small amount of the color and carefully apply it from the base of the lashes to the tips. Leave the tint on for about 5-10 minutes. Here's a pic of my progress! Remove tint with a dry cotton swab.

Use a damp cotton pad with a small amount of water to gently detach the lashes from the pad. Then, clean the eyelid with a moistened pad to remove any glue residue. Carefully remove the lash pad from the eyelid. Comb your lashes with the eyelash brush, apply some nourishing lotion and you are finished!

Overall, I love the result - I feel like I don't have to put on the dreaded mascara for a while. I think I learned a lot by watching Tiffany (and Marty) and will try to do it on my own next time! Look below for the lash transformation.
