Three Steps to Closet Clarity

Don't miss a thing with The Hive Women and Buzz from The Hive!

Spring cleaning is in session and many women tell me they’ve been clearing the decks and making those rounds to Goodwill.

If you’ve yet to venture into your packed closet, here are three ways to divide and conquer - using my 3 C’s of closet editing.

Clear

Get the lead out. Seriously assess your current selection and be honest with yourself about what pieces are tired, dirty, ill fitting, or simply out of style.

Let them go. If you can’t bear to donate or gift to friends, I always suggest my clients move unworn items to another space. Because if you have those items in your closet, they will be a visual distraction each time you need to get ready to go somewhere. Place them in another closet, a basement on racks or if there’s no room, you can sometimes find storage units with rails you can hang clothing on.

Cull

After you’ve completed an initial edit of your wardrobe and dispensed with some of the heft, consolidate what remains to see which items may be workable into outfits you may not have thought of before.

Create

Mix and match remaining items on a trial basis to see if they’ll make the cut in the real world! Explore pieces you could now wear that had been buried in the bulk. Try them on and see if they fit and you still like them. If so, experiment with making a few new outfits. This is what I call closet play!

Clear, Cull, Create - my three steps to closet clarity! If I lost you at Clear, there’s no shame in that. Just reach out to schedule one of my in-home or virtual services, which are detailed on my website, www.findmyfeminine.com.
